The owners of property, whether private property or commercial property, owe a duty to their guests or invitees that their property is safe. If there is any type of dangerous condition on the property, the owner must either correct it within a reasonable amount of time after discovering the condition, or warn of the condition. Unfortunately, that does not always happen and injuries caused by slip and falls, inadequate security, construction accidents, fires, or exposure to hazardous materials do occur.
If you or someone you know has been injured on someone else's property by the failure to correct a dangerous condition or warn of the danger, get the name, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses that saw the injuries. Also, it is important to get photographs of the area where the injury occurred, as well as any substance that may have caused the injuries or the fall or slip. Once you are home, take the clothing and foot wear that was worn at the time of the injuries and put them in a safe place for possible testing later. Do not wash them!
